Megan Thee Stallion Offers Scholarships to Women of Color

SCHOLARSHIPS

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion is putting her money where her mouth is. She is supporting black women and all women of color with the announcement of her new scholarship fund. She recently partnered with Amazon’s Music Rap Rotation to create the “Don’t Stop” fund, which will award two $10,000 scholarships to women of color who are pursuing an Associates, Bachelor’s, or Post-Graduate degree in any field of study.

The fund’s website made a statement celebrating women who usually aren’t celebrated, get the short end of the stick in society and yet continue to pursue their education saying, “In honor of all the young women out there who don’t stop working hard to get their education! Women remain underrepresented and undervalued in society and female students of color are at a larger disadvantage when it comes to access to financial resources.”

Despite her success, Megan told People magazine in June she continues to pursue her educational goals. “I want to get my degree because I want to make my mom proud. She saw me going to school before she passed.” Megan’s mom died earlier this year. She noted her grandmother who is still living used to be a teacher, and so it’s the women in her family who’ve made her who she is today and inspire her to continue pursuing her degree.

The Realist Woman’s take:

When I was researching to get the details of this scholarship, the majority of news I came across on Megan Thee Stallion had to do with her case against Tory Lanez, who she alleges shot her twice in the foot this past summer. Also in the news, her “controversial” SNL performance where she advocated for the protection of black women and criticized Black Republican/traitor Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron for denying Breonna Taylor justice for the police murdering Breonna Taylor.

I recommend you read that piece as she noted the ridiculousness that is the controversy surrounding the phrase”Protect Black Women.”

I say all this to say, in my search results of Megan, I didn’t see anything about this scholarship. What makes headlines is anything deemed sensational and anything that has to do with education and supporting women in a beautiful and positive way, you have to dig to find. Well here on the Realist Woman blog, we are going to highlight this amazing move by this amazing and inspiring black woman.
